ABOUT ME

Music is an example of God’s grace to all of us, something that can lift people from the deepest discouragement and soften the hardest of hearts.
— Wayne Braxton

Wayne’s first experience in music was at the age of 5 years old, when he and his twin brother, Nelson, would make up songs while using their family’s pots and pans in the kitchen as instruments! Being blessed with supportive parents and a public school system that had significant music resources available, Wayne and his brother were able to learn a variety of musical instruments. Their father was a local DJ and music lover with thousands of records, exposing the brothers to every style of music imaginable. Throughout school he studied both classical and jazz styles and earned numerous awards, including: 1st Chair California All-State Band (2 times), Acceptance to the MacDonald’s All American Band, Numerous Top Ratings at CMEA and IAJE Events.

As a recording artist, Wayne has released 6 CD’s with his group, The Braxton Brothers. Their first single reached #1 on the U.S. Smooth Jazz radio charts for multiple weeks in a row. The brothers’ latest album, Higher, has already produced its first Billboard Top 10 Single, and is currently promoting a second single which is garnering airplay on all major Smooth Jazz outlets, radio stations and programs, including Sirius/XM Satellite’s Watercolors, the internationally syndicated Smooth Jazz Network, and most of the Billboard reporting radio stations in the U.S. Wayne has also had the pleasure of touring internationally and recording with world renowned, Grammy award nominated artists such as, Sheila E. and Ledisi.

In July of 2019, the Braxton Brothers will be headlining the 2019 Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz in front of an expected crowd of 20,000 or more. The recently performed at one of California’s largest Smooth Jazz festivals, the Newport Beach Jazz Festival and are in process of arranging dates throughout the country to perform for all of their new fans generated by the success of their current album, Higher.

Music for Wayne has changed over the years from being merely an ability he has been given, to being a true tool for loving others. The story of David’s music and how it soothed Saul, causing evil spirits to depart from him, took root in Wayne’s heart. (1 Sam 14:16-23) God has continued to affirm that desire which was planted, providing opportunities, ideas and resources for Wayne to share not only his music, but more importantly the love of Christ to others. Whether through service, through an encouraging word, through song or through helping others apply God’s truth to their lives, his desire is to continue walking in the freedom and abundance that life in Christ provides. He shares that “….my hope is that people will feel God’s love when they are around me.”
